So, what to do?
-
Try to move your phantom limb even though you do not feel it moving.
-
Move your phantom limb whenever you have some free time. For example, while watching television or waiting for the microwave to finish. The more you move your phantom limb, the less likely you are to experience PLP.
-
As long as moving your phantom limb is not painful, keep moving it!
-
Keep track of your progress using a diary or dedicated mobile applications such as RehabTrack.
-
Talk to your physician if you perceive pain when touching or contracting the muscles in your residual limb. If painful neuromas exist, they should be treated appropriately.
